    Clown Fish

Noun:  A small, brightly colored marine fish of the genus Amphiprion, found near sea anemones. Also called clown anemone, anemone fish.

Clown fish are the only fish that can swim in the Anemone's  stinging cells.  Some say that the clownfish are to have an immunity to the stings.  They suggest that the fish gets a slimy substance on their body from the anemone which doesn't allow the stings to hurt the clownfish.

Clown fish are overly territorial about their "Anemone home."

Clown fish grow to be about 2 to 5 inches or 5 to 13 centimeters long.

They mostly live in warm water areas.  They go to places like the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the tropical regions of the Pacific Ocean, and Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

The Clownfish eat left over dead fish that the Anemone plant didn't eat.  They also will eat dead stinging cells of the Amemone, and they eat plankton.

Clown fish get their name from the way they swim.  They swim in a waddling like motion.

       Puffer Fish

Noun:  Any of various prickly, often poisonous, chiefly marine fishes of the family Tetraodontidae that are capable of puffing up by swallowing water or air. Also called blowfish, swellfish.

Puffer fish get their name from their ability puff up two times their original size. They do this by gulping water and inflating themselves.

The puffer fish has thick leathery skin but does not have scales.

They are found in warm water areas like the clownfish.  They are mostly known for being in the Indian and Atlantic Ocean.

The liver, muscles, skin, and ovaries of a puffer fish hold a very strong posion called tetrodoxin. It is a paralyzing poison

The puffer fish eat corals, sponges, sea urchins and other small sea life.

Puffer fish can range from a few inches long to almost 2 feet long!

These fish were the second animal with a backbone (after the human) to have their DNA read letter by letter.

  ~*Sting Ray*~

        Sting Ray

Noun:  Any of various rays of the family Dasyatidae, having a whiplike tail armed with one or more venomous spines capable of inflicting severe injury. Also called stingaree.

Sting rays have no bones!  Their inside skeleton is made entirely of cartilage!

Their tails are sharp and rigid like a steak knife.  They also contain poison and use it when they feel threatened.

Sting rays are not agressive.  They will swim away from danger whenever possible.  If the sting ray can't get away fast enough, it will use its stinging tail and inject poison into the enemy.

Sting rays usually eat mollusks and crustaceans.  They are mostly found in shallow sandy bottoms because that is where they dig up and find their food.

In marine biology, a "ray" is type of broad, flattened, cartilaginous fish that is related to the shark.
